FAQs

Ask Me Anything

It’s natural to have tons of questions when considering leaving your beloved pet with a stranger for the first time. To help you, I’ve provided a list of some of the frequently asked questions I'm confronted with below.

SPECIAL NEEDS DOGS

Blind dogs, three legged dogs, etc. also need grooming.  If you have a dog with a special need, please know that I am willing to work with your dog's needs in order to give him/her a great experience.

ENERGY WORK

I am a certified Reiki Master.  As I work on your dogs, I massage them and work with their energy to help them relax and deal with any fears or health issues.  Please let me know if you would like more info.

HOW I SCHEDULE GROOMS

I only have one dog at a time in my groom shop (unless 2 or more from same family).  I do require that each dog be up to date on their annual vet shots and rabies vaccine.

FLEAS

Any dog that has fleas will have an extra $25 charge for flea treatment.

GREETING ALTERATIVE BEHAVIOR

If you ignore your dog when they jump, theoretically their jumping behavior should eventually stop. After all, it’s no longer being rewarded. However, every person you encounter in your home or on the street isn’t going to know those rules. And even worse, that’s incredibly frustrating for your dog. They need to be taught what to do instead.

How you want your dog to greet people is up to you. You might simply want all four paws on the floor, or you might want your dog to sit or lie down. But remember, you need to tell them what TO do, not just what NOT to do. For example, sit for greetings is an easier rule than don’t jump.  (See me for more info!)

NAIL CUTTING - WHERE IS THE QUICK?

Dogs' nails should be cut once a week to help the quick to recede back into the nail bed.  Where is the quick?  Look at your dog's nail and you will see the pink color where the veil is inside the nail. On black nails, you will see a grayish part underneath the nail. Only take off the tips of the nails instead of trying to cut the nails short.  A little at a time will prevent hitting the quick and causing the nail to bleed.  If you do hit the quick making it bleed, make sure you have some Styptic Powder which can purchased at a local pet store or baking powder which will help stop the bleeding.  Let me know if you have any questions!
